SRT Demon Torque Reserve System Produces A Surreal Exhaust Note

Dodge may not have a large roster of models but what they do manufacture sure does invoke excitement. The most recent teaser video “No Pill” focuses on the unique exhaust note of the SRT Demon at full song. In fact, it’s so surreal that you may even think the engine is broken.

FCA’s press release admits that the sound of the SRT Demon may deter some people however it stays true to their famous slogan, “If you know, you know”.

“This week’s release couldn’t be more fitting of Dodge’s “If you know, you know” tagline, because “if you know” you will hear extreme performance, but those who don’t will think something is wrong with the engine.”

A ringtone (because apparently it’s 2001) was released alongside the video. It can be downloaded at ifyouknowyouknow.com

The cause of the unique exhaust pitch is Dodge’s all new advanced SRT Demon torque reserve launch system. Evidently it’s the first ever implemented on a production car for drag racing purposes.

Simply put, the torque reserve system works using only two procedures. First off, there is a bypass valve which closes on the supercharger that allows the blower to pre-fill. Secondly, RPM and torque are balanced through the powertrain computer which manages fuel flow and spark timing (a.k.a advancing/retarding the ignition) to individual cylinders. The controller also briefly cuts the fuel supply to select cylinders creating the absurd exhaust tone.

The end-game here is that the supercharged HEMI will start building boost pressure before it even leaves the line and achieve maximum boost even sooner than normal. A system like this will take full advantage of the ultra sticky Nitto drag radials and extraordinary new suspension setup leading to some rocketship style 60-foot and 1/4 mile times.

The SRT Demon torque reserve system only initiates when Launch Mode is activated and the engine revs are north of 1000.

Lastly, Dodge leaves us with another license plate riddle pictured in the photo below – 3.9+221=405. Let us know if you have any luck decoding it in the comments section.
