The latest Dodge video titled “Reduction,” reveals that the SRT Demon weight reduction program will allow it to shed over 200lbs off its curb weight when compared to its Hellcat cousin which weighs 4439lbs.
Only 2 teaser videos have been released to date with the first video “Cage” depicting a mechanical looking Hellcat morphing into a Demon. This pays tribute to Dodge’s resurrection announcement of the Demon nameplate from its 1970s lineup of Dart performance coupes.
2018 Challenger SRT Demon “Reduction” Video 2
In addition to the 200lbs weight savings, we also notice clues in the video as the semi transparent SRT Demon rolls onto a giant scale while hinting at adjustments made to the steering, wheels, brakes, interior and unibody. It would appear that for starters we can be expecting much wider front and rear wheels over the Challenger SRT Hellcat’s 20×9.5-inch alloys. Perhaps more importantly there is a noticeably larger hood bulge possibly indicating a larger supercharger. Although Dodge hasn’t revealed official power numbers we expect the Challenger SRT Demon to surpass the Challenger Hellcat’s 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque produced by the current 6.2-liter V-8 engine.
Despite some of the rumors claiming the SRT Demon would be all-wheel drive, we see no front differential. We reckon Dodge’s formula for this car is simply more power and less weight. Burnout city here we come!
Stay tuned as there are 15 teaser videos in total which means we still have another 10 to look forward to until the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon’s official debut at the New York auto show in April! The next teaser should be available January 26th, 2017! We’ll be writing an article on each video discussing our findings so stay tuned.
