Dodge’s current flagship all American supercar, the 2016 Dodge Viper SRT Coupe has received illustrious recognition by being named an inductee into Hagerty’s annual 2016 “Hot List” of future collectibles.

This should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the marvelously hand built road monster. Introduced to the world back in 1992, the Viper’s motorsport pedigree is nothing short of impressive with a lot of that influence trickling down to its street legal counterparts.

The Hagerty Group, based in Traverse City, Michigan puts out their “Hot List” of future collectibles each year. It features 10 collectible 2016 model year cars with an MSRP of less than $100,000. Being they are the largest insurance providers in the world of classic vehicles and host the largest network of classic car owners, it’s safe to say they know a thing or two when picking a winner in this category.

“The Viper checks all the boxes for a future collectible,” McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty, said.  “Limited-volume, race-bred pedigree, iconic styling and raw power make it a natural choice for the 2016 ‘Hot List’.”

It would be nice to see another SRT on the “Hot List” but unfortunately that’s not the case and it would seem that none of the other manufacturers have a double entry this year either.

What keeps it “real” for the 2016 Dodge Viper SRT Coupe however is that in a time when most other cars are trading engine displacement for forced induction, the Viper is moving in the opposite direction. Twenty five years from now, car collectors around the world will appreciate the brute force gas guzzler under the hood.

“The Dodge Viper is an iconic, hand-built American supercar with a 645 horsepower hand-built aluminum V-10 engine; a timeless and hand-crafted body design with a strong racing pedigree; and very limited production over its nearly 25-year lifespan,” Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands–Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT®, FCA–North America, said. “The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR’s unprecedented 13 track records add to the legend, and the exclusive 1-of-1 program with 25 million unique build configurations helps make it an exclusive collectible among today’s supercars.”
