The slow roll out of clues revealing the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon continues with the recent installment of the fifth Demon teaser video, “Forced Induction”. In it, Dodge ramps up the madness by presenting to us a resurrection of the largest functional factory hood scoop ever fitted to a production car. We can safely say the SRT Demon won’t have any respiratory issues.
The Dodge Demon Air Grabber measures a gigantic 45.2 square inches, dwarfing every other production car with a hood scoop. Under the hood sits a significantly larger K&N style filter/air box that is sealed and ducted to the hood scoop. Additionally, contrary to the Hellcat’s singular air intake “head light”, Dodge’s quarter-mile killer features two illuminated functional “Air Catcher” headlamps.
Dodge says the combination of these new breathing techniques will not only significantly increase airflow but also drop inlet air temperature by over 30 degrees in comparison to the Hellcat. All of these cooling measures could indicate that the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon might be running a greatly increased supercharger boost pressure.
As with previous videos, nothing cryptic such as the license plate has been displayed that we’ve noticed this time around.
We still don’t have any power or performance numbers on the SRT Demon but here is a quick summary of what we do know thus far in conjunction with the massive cold air intake system:
- 232 pounds less weight compared to its Hellcat sibling
- widebody and fender flares that house 18×11-inch lightweight alloys
- Demon branded 315/40R18 Nitto NT05R drag radials
- Direct Connection Demon Performance Parts, Demon-branded track tools, matching Demon spare wheels, Demon Track Pack System
The anticipation is really starting to build as we draw closer to the official unveiling at the New York Auto Show April 11, 2017. Rumors aside, given the hype surrounding this ruthless machine its bound to outperform the Hellcat by a country mile. The Dodge Demon Air Grabber and Air Catcher combo is a good start at providing Dodge with a way to crank up the ponies.
